Basic Principles of Chess Openings



  • Move center pawns first, for central control.
  • Generally play knights before bishops.
  • Never move a piece twice.
  • Don't block your pieces.
  • Open your pieces with threats.
  • Try to block opponents development.
  • Generally try to Castle fast.
  • NEVER MOVE QUEEN TO EARLY IN THE GAME.
  • Opening is said to be ended when all pieces are open, king is castled and both the rooks are guarding each other at 8th rank.
